Welcome

Following the  announcement in June 2004 regarding the awarding of Specialist School Status to Burscough Priory High School we are now going through a very exciting period in the evolution of the school. This announcement coupled with the opening of our new Science and Performing Arts building at the start of the Autumn term 2004 initiated an exciting period of change for the school including its re-launch in September 2004 as Burscough Priory Science College.

After 24 years as Headteacher at Priory Mr Leighton has announced his intention to leave at the end of the summer term, August 2009.
Mr Leighton
became the second Headteacher at Burscough Priory High School in January 1985 and has continued in this role ever since. Throughout his tenure the school has continually developed and grown into what Burscough Priory Science College is today and we have a lot to thank Mr Leighton for in this respect.

After a rigorous selection process the Governing Body can announce that they have now appointed Mr Leighton’s successor. Doug Bruce, the current Headteacher at Lathom High School will be joining Priory in September to become Priory's third Headteacher. For those of you with long memories you may recall Doug was a Deputy Head Teacher at Priory about 10 years ago.

Next time you see a Priory pupil walking along the road with their iPod earphones in their ears don't jump to the conclusion that they are listening to the latest tracks by the likes of Duffy or Kings of Leon as they could actually be revising!
Eleven pupils were selected to visit Rock Fm and take part in a podcasting revision session for English and Maths.  The content of the podcasts were English and Maths revision techniques using an interesting script with “5 Steps to Success” in their chosen area. These scripts were then recorded and  music is added as a background to the scripts.

After a fabulous evening of Music and Dance when Priory pupils were amongst 17 acts in the Wow Factor final at Southport College, we nervously awaited the judge's decision. We were thrilled to hear Hannah Avery's name called out as the third prize winner - winning herself £50. We were not to be disappointed with the announcement of the winner of the competition - Emma Francis won the first prize of £100. It was a very proud moment for Priory and we would like to congratulate all our performers who were such fantastic ambassadors for the school. »More

On Tuesday 9th December 2008  a group of Priory's Performing Arts and Fine Arts students went to the NEC in Birmingham to see the Clothes Show ‘Live’. As well as seeing the main fashion show event there was lots of opportunity to shop at the many retail outlets present at the event. The main fashion show was presented by Vernon Kay and there was also a fantastic performance from the "Saturdays" who performed their hit ‘UP’. It was a very long but enjoyable day for all the pupils who went.

On Wednesday 17th December 2008 Matt Shewbridge from Starchaser presented Year 11 rocket Challenge day. The day started with a talk and demonstrations about Starchaser and building rockets. The pupils then set about designing and building their own rockets and the highlight of the day was launching the rockets on the school field. Who's rocket travelled the furthest? Who's won best design? ............ and who's spiralled and went sideways, (there's always one!) Answers to these questions and photo's of the day can be found Here

A very big "well done" to everyone involved in the school's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the end of last term. This was another fantastic production and certainly one which lived up to the very high expectations everyone now has of productions at Priory. These productions don't just happen overnight and the end results were certainly an indication of all of the hard work that had been done prior to the productions themselves. Photo's of the production will appear very shortly, watch this space!
