PE Department

Department Introduction

Welcome to the Physical Education Department at Burscough Priory Science College.

The department currently has 4 full time staff members with another 2 members of staff who assist in extra curricular activity. In PE at Priory we teach mixed gender PE from Years 7 to 9. Pupils are taught from 5 of the 6 areas of the National Curriculum. The Curriculum states that pupils should be taught through at least 4 areas of the curriculum. At Burscough Priory the pupils are taught through dance, gymnastics, games, athletics activities and outdoor and adventurous activities.

GCSE PE is on offer at Key Stage 4 and we currently have over 70 pupils opting for the subject at GCSE level.

Our Mission Statement is for each individual to achieve their maximum potential through meaningful, varied and challenging situations, as well as promoting the enjoyment of physical activity and fitness and developing confidence and knowledge of the subject.

What are the aims and objectives of the PE Department?

  • To develop an individual’s strengths and character.
  • To raise the standard of sport in schools through the development of sporting provision.
  • To strengthen links between schools, business, industry, sporting bodies and the local community.
  • To ensure that the wider community derives the greatest benefit from the department’s sports facilities.

Burscough Priory will continue to maintain and improve these aspects so that all students succeed across the full ability range.
