The Science Department had a new purpose built science block constructed in 2004, containing five purpose built laboratories. All the Labs have been designed to a layout, which utilises all the available space, yet allows wheelchair access anywhere in the lab. All the labs are equipped with interactive white boards which pupils can clearly see from any location enabling a safe environment to both observe and carry out experiments. Each science teacher now has their own lab enabling a varied, challenging and stimulating atmosphere. The new and refurbished labs are providing science facilities and have had a tremendous input into the enthusiasm and interest across all the science subjects.
Burscough Priory were excited to invite Classroom Medics into school on the 26th May. Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 had the opportunity to talk to experts about different science careers in the health sector as well as interact with the latest technology in medical training, giving them an insight into how medical personnel now train. Students were able to record & monitor their own physiology, including their lung sizes and efficiency, measure blood pressures and video the inside of their ears! They also saw how Stan reacts to drugs and diseases, helping them understand how their body works. Students thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and we really enjoyed having the pleasure of Classroom Medics and Stan at school.

If most people were asked to spend 2 ½ days in their school holidays doing Physics we’d probably hear them laughing a mile away, but this is exactly what 4 of our pupils have just done. The students were chosen to attend the 2 ½ day residential at Rugby School after completing personal projects about something that has inspired them in Science. The competition for the places was fierce but eventually 4 were chosen: Lauren Cheetham, Jessica Riley Green, Emma Potter and Kerry Wilde. They were whisked away by Mrs Fidler in the Easter holidays for team challenges including dragster launches, one minute timers and parachute building. There were also individual challenges such as speed stacking, and an amazing opportunity to indoor skydive. Turns out Physics is actually pretty fun!
