Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. The funding available per pupil is £935 and is received for any student that has been registered to receive Free School Meals (FSM) within the last 6 years (Ever6) and for students who have been in care for one day or more. Their funding is managed by the Virtual School.
The school is permitted to decide how the funding should be best spent however we are also accountable for the use of the expenditure.
Funding is given to school in April and is indicative due to possible changes in number of students eligible.
In 2017-2018 the funding is allocated as follows:
- Pupil Premium @ £935 for any student who has been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years
- Pupil Premium Plus @ £1900 for any student who has been looked after for one day or more, is adopted or who left care under a Special Guardianship Order or a Residence Order
- A Service Premium of £300 is also provided to support students with parents in the armed forces.
