A welcome from the Chair of Governors................
At the start of a new school year we
welcome newcomers to our school and current pupils
alike.
To parents we say, "Join us in the education of
your children."
Choosing
a High School for your child
is one of the most important
decisions that you have to
make. Comparing one school
with another is no easy
task, do you spend half your
life visiting them, trawling
through performance
statistics or listening to
parents of older children?
It’s a
difficult decision but one
that cannot be left to
chance.
Burscough
Priory Science College is at the
heart of the village
community. It’s highly
skilled, experienced and
motivated staff are
dedicated to giving your
child the education he or
she deserves.
Our new
Science and Performing Arts
block opened in
September 2004 and
represents an investment in
excess of £1million.
In conjunction with
our change of status to
Science College this period
of change really does
mark a major event in the
school’s history.
The
Governing Body support both
the staff and pupils of the
school by their enthusiasm,
commitment and diverse
experience. The parent
governors are elected on a
four year term by the
parents of existing pupils.
They are there to ensure
that parents do have a voice
in the way the school is
managed and developed.
Governing
bodies undertake three very
important roles within the
school's management
structure..................
To
provide strategic
direction for the
school.
To
act as a critical friend
to the headteacher, who
is responsible for the
day-to-day management of
the school and the
school team.
To
ensure accountability.
The governors are ordinary
people who have a desire to
see that our students are
learning successfully,
that our staff are supported
and empowered to carry out
their profession and
that our school is a safe
and well-equipped centre for
education. If you want more
information on becoming a
Governor please contact
either the school or myself

necessary as full training
is given!'
